The highest diesel price on record in Pakistan is Rs 424.92 a litre. It was in force on 18 September 2026.

A higher figure, Rs 520.35, was printed for 3 and 4 April 2026. The record marks both days as contradicted.

Rs 424.92 is also the highest diesel price since daily pricing began on 21 July 2026.

Prices before that come from Pakistan State Oil (PSO), which publishes each notified price. Daily prices come from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

What is the highest diesel price on record?

These are the 6 highest diesel prices in the record. All of them are from 2026.

4 April 2026Rs 520.35Marked contradicted

22 September 2026Rs 422.08
17 September 2026Rs 421.45

Before daily pricing, the highest price not flagged was Rs 414.58, from 9 May 2026. It is Rs 10.34 below the September high.

Before 2026, the high was Rs 329.18, from 16 September 2023. No notified price passed it until 7 March 2026, at Rs 335.86.

What happened to the price on 3 April 2026?

On 3 April 2026, PSO notified diesel at Rs 520.35. The notice before it, for 28 March, was Rs 335.86.

Dawn reported the rise the same day, as Rs 184.49 a litre. It said the levy on diesel was cut to zero.

Petrol fell back the next day. Diesel did not: PSO’s archive prints Rs 520.35 again for 4 April.

The next notice, for 11 April, was Rs 385.54. That is Rs 134.81 lower than on 4 April.

The record checks each price against the notices before and after it. A price that jumps and then comes straight back is marked contradicted.

Rs 520.35 is marked that way, on both days. The record keeps it exactly as PSO printed it, and does not correct it.

Some reports call it the highest diesel price in Pakistan’s history, as PakWheels did on 5 May 2026.

So I show it in the table, with its flag. I do not call it the record high without that flag.

How the levy was cut and rebuilt explains what happened to diesel’s levy that month.

What is the highest price since daily pricing began?

On 21 July 2026, OGRA began publishing a full price build-up for each new price. It lists every part of the price, line by line.

Diesel started at Rs 360.06 on 21 July. It reached Rs 395.69 on 19 August.

On 20 August, OGRA changed the layout of diesel’s sheet, and diesel was Rs 363.06. The diesel restructure note explains the change.

Other lines moved that day too, so I do not say the new layout caused the fall.

In September diesel rose again. It passed Rs 395.69 on 11 September, at Rs 398.04.

On 18 September 2026, OGRA printed Rs 424.92, the highest daily price so far.

DateDiesel, a litre
15 September 2026Rs 409.42
16 September 2026Rs 415.83
17 September 2026Rs 421.45
18 September 2026Rs 424.92
19 September 2026Rs 424.04
22 September 2026Rs 422.08
23 September 2026Rs 418.96

Since then it has come down. On 23 October 2026, OGRA printed Rs 391.75, Rs 33.17 below the high.

On 18 September, the Petroleum Levy was Rs 80.00, or 18.83% of the price. Petrol was Rs 390.79, so diesel cost Rs 34.13 more.

Why diesel and petrol move differently explains that gap. The diesel build-up shows the latest day.

What was the highest price in each year?

This table lists the highest diesel price PSO notified in each year. The date is the first day that price was in force.

Every figure is a printed price in rupees. No figure is averaged or adjusted for inflation, so years far apart are not directly comparable.

The yearly high rose from Rs 142.62 in 2021 to Rs 276.54 in 2022, then to Rs 329.18 in 2023.

The highs of 2024 and 2025 stayed below that. 2026 passed it in March.

Contested dates in 2012, 2014 and October 2026 do not change those years’ highs. Each year links to its page in the diesel history.

Why does 2006 need care?

PSO’s archive holds 4 different diesel prices dated 1 January 2006, from Rs 62.65 to Rs 107.00.

The record marks all 4 as contested and chooses none. So the year table leaves them out.

The next notice, for 9 January 2006, prints diesel at Rs 65.00. That is the 2006 high in the table.

But PSO’s archive prints the same 4 prices, for all 4 fuels, again for 15 May 2006.

On 15 May, Rs 65.00 sits between 2 notices of Rs 37.29. So the record marks it contradicted.

The 9 January row is not flagged. The check needs a clear price on each side, and before it there are only the contested prices.

So I show Rs 65.00 as the record holds it. Read it with the 15 May row beside it.

2010 has a contradicted price too. PSO notified Rs 113.29 for 22 October 2010, between Rs 73.82 and Rs 78.33.

Unlike petrol, diesel has no second publisher in these years. OGRA published no diesel build-up before 21 July 2026.

Where do these figures come from?

Prices before 21 July 2026 come only from PSO’s notices. Each page of PSO’s archive is saved with a SHA-256 fingerprint.

From 21 July 2026, each day also has OGRA’s own printed sheet. The 18 September sheet is OGRA price publication 16420.

PSO’s notice for 18 September prints the same Rs 424.92.

Every flag in this note, contradicted or contested, is listed on the data checks page.
