The highest petrol price on record in Pakistan is Rs 414.78 a litre. It was in force from 9 May 2026.

A higher figure, Rs 458.41, was printed for 3 April 2026. It lasted 1 day, and the record marks it as contradicted.

Since daily pricing began on 21 July 2026, the highest price is Rs 398.96, on 9 October 2026.

Prices before that come from Pakistan State Oil (PSO), which publishes each notified price. Daily prices come from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

What is the highest petrol price on record?

These are the 6 highest petrol prices in the record. All of them are from 2026.

DatePetrol, a litreWhat the record says
3 April 2026Rs 458.41Marked contradicted
9 May 2026Rs 414.78Highest price not flagged
16 May 2026Rs 409.78
23 May 2026Rs 403.78
1 May 2026Rs 399.86
9 October 2026Rs 398.96Highest under daily pricing

Some sites date the Rs 414.78 high 11 May 2026. PSO’s notice in the record puts it in force from 9 May.

Before 2026, the high was Rs 331.38, from 16 September 2023. No notified price passed it until 4 April 2026.

On that day petrol was Rs 378.41. So even the price after the April cut was a new high.

What happened to the price on 3 April 2026?

On 3 April 2026, PSO notified petrol at Rs 458.41. The notice before it, for 28 March, was Rs 321.17.

Dawn reported the rise the same day. Diesel rose to Rs 520.35 at the same time.

The next day, petrol was Rs 378.41. That is Rs 80.00 lower, the size of the levy cut Profit reported on 4 April.

The record checks each price against the notices before and after it. A price that jumps and then comes straight back is marked contradicted.

Rs 458.41 is marked that way. The record keeps it exactly as PSO printed it, and does not correct it.

So I show it in the table, with its flag. I do not call it the record high without that flag.

How the levy was cut and rebuilt explains what happened to the levy that week.

What is the highest price since daily pricing began?

On 21 July 2026, OGRA began publishing a full price build-up for each new price. It lists every part of the price, line by line.

Under daily pricing, petrol first peaked at Rs 393.75, on 22 September 2026. OGRA’s sheets stayed below that until 7 October.

In October it rose past that. On 9 October 2026, OGRA printed Rs 398.96, the highest daily price so far.

DatePetrol, a litre
3 October 2026Rs 392.76
6 October 2026Rs 393.64
7 October 2026Rs 394.83
8 October 2026Rs 396.65
9 October 2026Rs 398.96
10 October 2026Rs 398.30
13 October 2026Rs 395.37

The table shows OGRA’s printed totals. PSO’s archive is less clear about 7 October.

For that date it prints 2 petrol prices, Rs 394.83 and Rs 396.65. The record chooses neither.

Rs 398.96 is still Rs 15.82 below the 9 May high.

On 9 October, the Petroleum Levy was Rs 80.00, or 20.05% of the price. It was Rs 80.00 on every day since 21 July.

The build-up shows the latest day. The price history shows every notified price since 2006.

Every figure is a printed price in rupees. No figure is averaged or adjusted for inflation, so years far apart are not directly comparable.

The yearly high rose from Rs 145.82 in 2021 to Rs 248.74 in 2022, then to Rs 331.38 in 2023.

The highs of 2024 and 2025 stayed below that. 2026 passed it in April.

Each year links to its own page in the price history, with every notified price.

Why do 2006 and 2007 have 2 answers?

From 2006 to 2011, OGRA also published petrol’s build-up every 2 weeks. On some dates, it prints a different price from PSO’s notice.

For 1 May 2006, PSO notified Rs 55.55 and OGRA printed Rs 57.70. The record keeps both and does not choose.

In 2007, OGRA’s highest is Rs 57.70, on 1 January 2007. PSO’s archive has no notice for that date.

2006 has a second problem. PSO’s archive holds 4 different petrol prices dated 1 January 2006, from Rs 62.13 to Rs 103.36.

The record marks all 4 as contested and chooses none. So the year table leaves them out.

2010 has a contradicted price too. PSO notified Rs 101.08 for 22 October 2010, between Rs 66.99 and Rs 72.96.

What OGRA published from 2006 to 2011 explains where the older build-up comes from.

Where do these figures come from?

Prices before 21 July 2026 come only from PSO’s notices. Each page of PSO’s archive is saved with a SHA-256 fingerprint.

From 21 July 2026, each day also has OGRA’s own printed sheet. The 9 October sheet is OGRA price publication 17068.
